Hayes Center site of Battle of South Mountain re-enactment

Cannon and rifle fire will ring out over the usually peaceful wooded sanctuary of Spiegel Grove this weekend during the annual Hayes Presidential Center Civil War Reenactment.

Hundreds of Union and Confederate re-enactors, mostly from Ohio and Michigan, come to the event Saturday and Sunday to re-create the Battle of South Mountain, fought over three mountain passes in Maryland during the American Civil War.
