The wisdom, predigested, of Ambrose Bierce

Recently attempts have been made to widen interest in the writings of Ambrose Bierce, American author of the late 19th and early 20th century. His collected works came to 12 volumes, but his writing is little known today except for one or two stories. But his short stories show a grasp of reality that presaged the attitudes of later generations of writers.
