Local historian John M. Taylor has a good review in the Oct. 1 issue of The Washington Times of the new book by Anthony Arthur titled “General Jo Shelby’s March,” primarily dealing with Shelby’s move to Mexico in 1865 after the end of the war. With other officers, including Com. Matthew Fontaine Maury, the Kentucky-born Shelby and his family moved south of the border intending to be of assistance to Emperor Maximilian.
