Mary’s Musings: Company’s eagle immortalized
As Thanksgiving draws near, I have been looking for some less known stories about our heroic ancestors who sacrificed that we might be free today.
I found a story named “Abe – the Soldier Bird,” originally published by the Wisconsin Historical Society in 1904. It goes like this: A Chippewa Indian found a “wee eaglet,” and then sold him to a man preparing to join Eau Claire, Wisconsin’s Company C to fight in the Civil War.
