Tompkins County to honor Civil War nurses through TC3 scholarships

Carol Kammen said she was “disturbed” when she realized there was no memorial in Tompkins County honoring Civil War nurses. But with 2011 marking the 150th anniversary of the start of the war, she saw a chance to change that.

Kammen, along with the Tompkins County Civil War Commission, decided to create three nursing scholarships at Tompkins Cortland Community College to honor four local nurses who served in the war.
