Antietam superintendent hanging up his hat
Soon after John Howard became superintendent of Antietam National Battlefield during the summer of 1995, he said he was living a dream.
“It’s still a dream come true,” Howard said Monday, sitting in his office at Antietam National Cemetery.
As a “young buck ranger” 37 years ago, Howard never dreamed he’d one day oversee one of the country’s 393 national parks for the American public.

To get straight to the point, Mr. Howard is a very good man. The National Park Service, Antietam NB, and the Civil War community are losing a very strong asset.
