‘Forgotten’ soldier to get headstone
Although he fought in an African-American regiment of the Union Army in the Civil War and lived to be 90 years old, Clay Trotter was pretty much a forgotten man until recent years.
Buried in 1926 in Hill Crest Cemetery in Anderson Township, Trotter lay in an unmarked grave for decades. In fact, he may never have had a headstone. After a while, no one even knew he was buried there.
