Civil war vet made a splash in sioux falls
In 1888, Melvin Grigsby of Sioux Falls wrote a memoir of his Civil War service called “Smoked Yank,” mainly to record the stories for his family.
A decade later, he was mustering troops to ride east in preparation for the Spanish-American War despite the fact that he was South Dakota attorney general at the time.
