In 1864, when he died at the age of twenty-two in the notorious Civil War prison at Andersonville, Georgia, John S. Jameson was already widely admired for his artistic and musical talents. Frederic Church had praised and befriended him; John F. Kensett honored him posthumously. Throughout his brief life, Jameson was surrounded by accomplished artists from whom he received praise and support.
