Sherman House to mark 200th anniversary

An open house, a movie night and the unveiling of a newly restored Civil War cannon are just some of the events residents can participate in this year to celebrate a Fairfield County landmark’s 200th anniversary.

The Sherman House, 137 E. Main St., Lancaster, is well-known throughout Fairfield County as the birthplace of Civil War Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman. The original frame home, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has stood on East Main Street since 1811 and has served as a museum and memorial to the Sherman family since 1951.
