One-man show highlights black soldiers’ role in Civil War

Robert Davis, 21st-century Civil War re-enactor and historian, wants people to know the role black soldiers played in that conflict and what they went through to attain freedom.

So he’s created a time machine, of sorts, to transform himself into Andrew Lewis, escaped slave and 19th-century veteran of Illinois’ 29th Infantry Regiment, U.S. Colored Troops. The 29th USCT was attached to the Army of the Potomac and then the Army of the James.
