‘Florida in the Civil War’ at the Orange County Regional History Center
WHAT: The contributions and the catastrophes of Floridians are displayed in “Florida in the Civil War,” an exhibit that opens at the Orange County Regional History Center this Saturday. The display covers how Florida residents survived a Union blockade of the coastline and explains how they shipped beef and salt to Confederate forces. Also among the relics: items from the Maple Leaf ship sunk in the St. John’s River, letters between a solider and wife, plus a hollowed-out doll’s head used to smuggle medicine and supplies.
