Headstone of Civil War soldier installed at Pioneer Cemetery

With the help of a little mortar and some dedication, a group of volunteers braved the rain on Thursday, to help restore a piece of history in Marshfield’s Pioneer Cemetery.

Toppled and broken headstones aren’t a new site for volunteers, but they have been working for years to help repair them.

And on Thursday, they installed the headstone of Union soldier, Michael Painter, who fought in the Civil War and died in October of 1917.
