Explorers find Civil War-era wreck in Lake Ontario
A Civil War-era schooner loaded with corn collided with another commercial vessel during a blinding snowstorm in 1862 and sank in minutes into the dark depths of Lake Ontario.
Two shipwreck explorers chanced upon the 119-foot-long C. Reeve while conducting underwater surveys this summer a few miles off the lake’s southern shore west of Rochester.
