Martinsburg widens historic district
A Martinsburg estate where George Washington attended a wedding and a circa-1812 mansion saved by direct order of Abraham Lincoln in the Civil War now have an extra level of protection from being demolished.
Upon a unanimous vote by Martinsburg City Council Thursday evening, Aspen Hall and Boydville, along with dozens of other properties in some of the city’s oldest neighborhoods, were added to a zoning district where public review of demolition permits and exterior changes to buildings is required.
