Carlisle man tracks down family heirloom

Jim Stine first saw the sword more than 50 years ago.

The North Middleton Township man was only 12 years old when his maternal grandmother, Catherine Weise, showed him an early photograph of Benjamin T.F. Oliver.

The image of the Union cavalry trooper, in full Civil War regalia, made an instant impression on the boy. The photograph had been taken circa 1870 and his great-great-great-granddaddy looked the part of a seasoned combat veteran.
