2005 cannon controversy spurs proposed ordinance
Following a controversy over missing cannons on Monument Square a few years back, a city committee has proposed an ordinance to protect city-owned historical property.
In the summer of 2005, city department officials had two Civil War cannons in Monument Square moved as a part of a redesign of the Downtown square. But later it was discovered that the cannons were being stored behind a salt shed.
