Civil War Soldiers To Tell Tar Heel Story at Bennett Place

More soldiers from North Carolina served in the Confederate army than any other Southern state. Some of these Tar Heel “soldiers” will take part in a free two-day living history event at the Bennett Farm on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and again on Sunday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Presentations and talks will explain how the Confederate soldiers of North Carolina came to be known as “Tar Heels.” In addition, visitors can learn about the unique style of uniforms and equipment, which were produced from the booming textile industry in North Carolina at the time of the Civil War.
