Re-enactment to feature symposium
Keokuk’s links with the Civil War are forged by the city’s military volunteers and leaders, its medical college and military hospital and home of the first National Cemetery west of the Mississippi River.
“People should know that this was the most important medical area from here to St. Louis,” said Kirk Brandenberger, executive director of the Keokuk Area Convention and Tourism Bureau. “This was the center for medical units coming back north.”
