There is much to learn about the everyday life of people who lived during the Civil War in northwest Arkansas. Many books have been written and many studies focused on the military aspects of the war. A new interest in the civilian side of the story can lead to a better understanding of a turbulent chapter in American history that continues to haunt our state and national persona. Since there is no one alive today to tell about that particular time period, we must rely on a mixture of family stories, historical accounts and artifacts to provide clues to understanding one of the most important chapters in our Arkansas history.
