The University of Mary Washington’s Fredericksburg campus holds a big secret.

It is, unbeknown to most, the hidden-in-plain-sight part of the Fredericksburg battlefield.

Part of Marye’s Heights, its long ancient-river terrace gave Confederate artillery a commanding prospect over the plain below during both battles here in 1862 and 1863.
