Civil war cannon believed to be at bottom of river – Sampling our history

A missing piece of Moss Point’s history, a Civil War cannon, is believed to lie at the bottom of the Escatawpa River at the city’s downtown.

Dr. Chris Wiggins, a member of the Military Committee of the Jackson County Historical and Genealogical Society, is leading an effort to bring the long missing artifact to the surface. The cannon has a colorful post-Civil War history, according to Wiggins’ and JCHGS member Harry McDonald’s research.
