Monumental return in Rocky Mount

With the undraping of a candy-cane-striped length of fabric on Saturday, a piece of Franklin County’s history was restored.

For close to a century, a statue honoring the county’s soldiers who fought in the Civil War stood in front of the white-columned county courthouse on South Main and East Court streets.
