Fought Aug. 29 and 30, 1862, the Battle of Richmond, Ky., marked one of the most conclusive Civil War victories for either side, even though Confederate Gen. Patrick Cleburne was seriously wounded.

The rout of Maj. Gen. William “Bull” Nelson’s Union forces by Maj. Edmund Kirby Smith’s Confederate troops is being re-enacted Saturday and Sunday at Richmond’s Battlefield Park, an annual event sponsored by the Battle of Richmond Association (www.battleofrichmond.org), Madison Bank and the Madison County Historical Properties Division.
