Justin Ballard had an astute observation of the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall. “The building kind of has a feeling of a battleground,” the 11-year-old said.
The battle over the last decade has been for funds to repair and renovate the building.

A special traveling exhibit from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Ill., will be at the Wabash County Museum for two weeks only.
The exhibit will open on Tuesday, Nov. 23, and will close on Dec. 7. Exhibit hours will be daily (except Nov. 25, Thanksgiving Day) from 2 to 5 p.m.

Oregon’s official festival is the latest not-for-profit organization to donate money to help refurbish a veteran’s monument on the Ogle County Courthouse lawn.
Autumn on Parade donated $500 toward the Soldier & Sailors Monument Oct. 21 bringing the total raised to $4,684. The cost to repair and refurbish the monument is estimated at $7,500.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $250,000 grant to the city of Aurora to fund interior renovations at the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Museum.
The GAR Memorial Hall Post 20 was built in 1878 at 23 E. Downer Place as a monument to those who fought in the Civil War.
