Secondly, I'm pretty sure that everything in and around Gettysburg saw some action. Perhaps not major battle, but there were either troop movements or camps. Wasn't Camp Letterman near this particular location? Indy, Yes, it was in that same area, and built upon by the same guy who is trying to get the Casino thru. That said, the CWPT really made no effort in terms of saving that land back when they had a chance to, and that is one of the major problems I have with their thinking. As for where the Casino is supposed to be built, not denying that soldiers rode over the area, but that's getting way too technical for me as to being a historic event. As for being negative, point I was trying to make is that is not the only way to get to Downtown Gettysburg off of US 15, but those in charge of the CWPT's efforts down there sure have made it known that it is, and that's not right either. IIRC, it is the same guy. He owns the Harley Davidson dealership in that same area, and is a major backer in the casino venture. Regards from the Garden State, Steve Basic

Yes, it's the guy who owns the Harley dealership further out Route 30, but I'm quite certain he had nothing to do with the properties on 30 in the vicinity of Camp Letterman. Regards, Jay

He owns the dealership and the land around Camp Letterman. He was most certainly involved in the Camp Letterman stuff. Steve Basic

There are four developers currently holding land believed involved with Camp Letterman. Three are primarily residential and one primarily commercial and none of them is Levan. Regards Jay

Make that four developers and one preservation organization. The Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Organization's Daniel Lady Farm encompasses the southernmost portion of Letterman.

Many thanks to Jay Purdy (the Purd on this board) for providing CWi with the link to the Impact Statement filed by the casino group with Pa. authorities, just released today. It addresses subjects such as the impact of a Gettysburg casino on traffic, crime, environment, and historical heritage. It's a lenghty document, and in fairness is totally one-sided (after all it was put together by the group that wants to build the casino), but I think many will enjoy reading it. Crossroads Gaming Takes a Powerful Partner Investors in Crossroads Gaming Resort and Spa, L.P. have announced an agreement with Millennium Gaming, Inc., (Millennium) to serve as operators of the proposed $300 million slots and entertainment facility. At a press conference this morning, David LeVan, CEO of Crossroads introduced Millennium executives to the news media and outlined reasons why Millennium is especially well suited to operate the resort and spa should the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania award a gaming license for the facility. “We are very excited about today’s announcement and about the opportunity to work with Millennium on this first-class project,” said LeVan. He continued, “Bill Paulos and Bill Wortman of Millennium are among the most respected names in gaming and entertainment. After interviewing nearly a dozen prospective operators and discussing our options with regulators, industry analysts, financial advisors and community leaders where Millennium currently operates, our choice became clear. This is a great day for our project, our prospects for success, and for Adams County.” Paulos and Wortman have more than 65 years of gaming and entertainment operating experience. LeVan particularly noted Millennium’s “outstanding track record of building and operating their resorts to match the social fabric and culture of the communities they serve. Bill Paulos and Bill Wortman have a history of building strong and lasting relationships with the communities in which they operate and we are confident they will bring that same philosophy to Crossroads and Adams County. These factors were paramount to our decision to enter into an agreement with Millennium.” Millennium operates the Rampart Casino in Las Vegas and owns and operates the Cannery Casino and Hotel in North Las Vegas, Nevada. In November 2005, PA Meadows, an affiliate of Millennium, agreed to purchase the Meadows racetrack in Washington County, PA. LeVan pointed out to community leaders and later to reporters assembled to meet Millennium executives, that Crossroads’ new “relationship with Millennium is the second major endorsement of the project by well-regarded business entities that understand the economic potential of the venture.” In January, Crossroads announced an $80 million equity investment by New York-based Morgan Stanley subsidiary, MS Gaming Companies Holdings, Inc. “We are confident that Millennium’s development and operating expertise will contribute to the financial success of this project and are delighted to have them as partners,” said Michael C. Evening all. Just wanted to add, and handled by those who live there. That said, just watch how the CWPT will take the credit for this news. Hello All... I agree the locals need to handle this, BUT... The marketer/developer seems to be very insensitive about the national cemetery and university located near the planned casino/hotel complex. The SPIRIT of the development is in direct, glaring contrast to the SPIRIT of the Gettysburg township and its agricultural, historic, and educational nature. I think the developer is TAKING ADVANTAGE OF the 2-million-visitor base that HISTORIC Gettysburg provides his proposed operation. I suppose you could call that a shrewd business move, but I consider it a RIP-OFF. Gettysburg's entrepreneurs create and pay for advertising and promotional materials that focus on the bucolic beauty of the locale, the heritage of the US, and the like. The casino firm won't have to spend so much in advertising to attract folks to the town -- 2 million folks already go there due to the efforts and expenditure of others. The casino undoubtedly will siphon some of the money out of visitors' pockets, leaving the tourists less to spend amongst the produce-sellers, bookstore owners, tour guides, souvenir shops, and others. The $1,000,000 a year "bonus" that the operator promises to share with the township: will that go for extra police (traffic control? crime investigation?), road widening and traffic signals?, psychological counseling services for gambling addicts and crime victims? One million ain't gonna be enough; one million ain't fair enough. The arrangement should be $1 million a year to the burg as a base allocation PLUS a percentage of the casino's annual take. A Gettysburg official should be on some kind of governing board to monitor the figures, NOT somebody in Harrisburg overseeing the PA gambling commission. LOCAL. As for me, I'LL NEVER SET FOOT IN THE SLOTS CASINO IN GETTYSBURG. Even if I'm driving by the casino and Nature calls loud-and-clear, I'll stop at some other facility to ... use the facilities.
