Primarily Napoleaons(SP) and Parrotts... I cannot remember the shot size however...

By doing a little research on line first for the hotchkiss shell I find it was used in a 3-inch wrought iron (ordnance) rifle Then by going to the Frederickburg National Park site I find that both the Union and the Confederacy had this artillery at Fredericksburg. I think the federals had 15 to 20 of them according to a NPS site I visited, but there could have been more... listing is rather confusing in that it does not appear to be very comprehensive.. Confederates used captured guns as well as the copies they made. 'theirs were not as accurate due to inferior steel and limited production facilities.. ed

If that is a complete list of the artillery units, then the 15 or so 3" ordnance rifles in federal batteries would be accurate as not all units had them..

Thanks Bama . I am still trying to learn arty and I get so confused . I told the muster group I need one of those cheat sheets like you buy for flowers or birds. laminated with all the different cannons and artillary on it . I bet it would sell well in the bookshops . Susan

YOUR FORTUNE IS MADE! That really is a great idea... could even taylor it to the canon found at the individual parks... " The Canon of Shiloh" as an example... great idea!

That would be even better . I like that the Cannons of Shiloh. I know at the first muster I attened I followed Dave Gorski around asking him and what is this cannon? . Of course if it works for me as well as the flower, tree and bird ones I have I am in real trouble as those don't help me much. Susan
