Interesting idea... My interest has always been with the USCT, so here is my favorite.

Mine is from the April 22, 1865 edition of Harpers Weekly.

I thought I'd seen that in a Harper's Weekly Mark.

Going with Harper's Weekly here's three from the January 11, 1862 issue

I think that is supposed to be Jeff Davis and friends kowtowing to the British and the British snubbing them...

Ok, the first two if you haven't figured it out are supposed to be about the Mason Slidell Affair, I'd say better known today as the Trent Affair. The third caption reads

A Glimpse into the Future.- JOHN BULL'S Distinguished Reception of his New Friends.

Well you had said in the original post to try not elaborating too much and let the cartoons speak for themselves, Savez. Tried the only elaboration I did being to tell where I got the first three and the date they appeared then had to elaborate a little more, particulary on the third one. Gonna try it again with these, only not going to post links this time and see what you guys think. These are from the February 9, 1861 issue of Harper's Weekly. Same website I got the last three.

I like some of the captions they give for the politcal cartoons. That series is about compromise based on the caption.

Thry this next one, it's from the April 13, 1861 issue of Harper's Weekly:

http://www.sonofthesouth.net/leefoundation/civil-war/1861/april/abe-lincoln-cartoon.jpg

Caption reads:

CONSULTING THE ORACLE.

PRESIDENT LINCOLN. " And, what next ?"

COLUMBIA. "First be sure you're right, then go ahead!"
