Folks -
Understand that I'm trying to say something here without picking on anyone, and I really hope others are noticing this.
In recent weeks, some people have been posting who seem to blatantly disregard common rules of spelling, punctuation, sentence form, etc. Look, none of us are linguists. And few if any are English professors. Everyone mispells words now and then. I'm sure there are some in this post, so I'm not saying every word has to be looked up.
But when you make a post, or rebut one, you have a responsibilty to at least make an attempt that your post be readable. I'm simply asking that we all take a second look at our posts before hittting "Submit". I find that hittting the "Preview" buton first and seeing your post as it will appear helps. So if you think I'm being overly picky, then disregard. But I know I for one am only going to spend so much time figuring out what someone is trying to say...

I guess we know where that zinger was aimed. I've spent a few years playing around in the boards. Some of the finest minds I've ever seen got fouled up on the keyboard. Pick it up. Play along. But the suggestion to hit preview first is well taken. Read it twice, then hit "send."

Thanks! I really appreciate you pointing this problem out. My eyesight isn't what it used to be.

The preview suggestion is a good one. I am struggling with typing 1 handed, using my non dominant hand, and find many stupid errors after posting... often I hit the letter next to the one i am "aiming"at

Ed you are doing well all things considered .
Hope you are recovering quickly.
I make mistakes in typing all the time but there are some post that are impossible to read . Takes too long to guess what is meant. Thanks Joe for the reminder .

Something I might toss out for consideration - the Firefox web browser, which is free to download and use, has a built-in spell checker. I think you may have to activate it for it to work, but that's easy to do. When you're typing a post, just right-click anywhere inside the text window, and that will bring up a pop-up window. Just click the option that says "Check Spelling," and you're good to go. When you type a word that it doesn't recognize, it underlines that word. If you then right-click on that word, and it gives you alternate suggestions, or gives you the option of adding the word to its built-in dictionary. It's not perfect, but it's a big help for folks like me who can be spelling challenged.
Could be other browsers also have this feature, but I've been using Firefox for so long now I don't know for sure. But it saves me from myself every time I write something online. Most of the time when I'm writing a post, there will be so many words underlined it looks like an English teacher has given me a failing grade. But I'm grateful for the help. It's a very good feature in my opinion.

Okay, okay, so I AM an English teacher (so keep using Firefox, Perry !), but I'm hardly perfect. It doesn't bother me so much to read misspellings or "email-ese" (though I'll admit I'm old school when it comes to stuff like that). But when English starts to look like a foreign language, and I have trouble understanding the words more than the tactics or the strategy we're discussing, I'm more likely to skip it than translate it. And that means I'm probably missing good stuff. Previewing is a good idea. Makes it easier to focus on the important stuff: the content!

Pam I agree with you on what you have to say about not being able to read what is written. I tend to then skip anything posted by that person as I get tired of trying to translate what is being said.

I must confess to being a bit perturbed on the monkey pile. Most of us grupps have been there and done that. Here we run on and on and on about how difficicult it is to get the kiddles interested in our great and glorious conflict, and when one or another shows up, we give them grief about spelling and syntax.
Scusi. I was a teener. I spec y'all were as well. Somewhere in there, I grew up. Mostly, it was because the grupps cut me some slack.
