Well since we are a tight-nit group here at CWI, I was just giveing this a thought. Well I have noticed that since me and Dixie Girl aren't the only teenagers on this board anymore, and we are getting more and more as they come along, that we should start a new section on this forum, devoted to helping, the young and the old with problems. What ever problems they might be. If one of the teenagers is having a problem oh lets just say one related to High School, or relationships, then the older ones can help us out. If the older and kinder population of CWI are haveing a problem oh lets say with Children and Grandchildren or with things that migth come easier to us younger ones, like problems with the computer, or other things, we csn help. I know we are always welcome to post our problems and asking for help but I figured it should have its own section.

Well, I for one, have two teens at home and Lord knows I can't always figure them out! RTD, your idea sounds fine to me but it's up to the mods, I think, really.
Woudn't bother me none!

Well said Joe. Not cruel just practical. I guess there are sites for teens who wish to discuss such subjects. If I am not misteaken schools also provide counselors, and most religous bodies are available for those services.

Thank you Joe, I didn't want to sound heartless but that is what I was thinking. This is a Civil War board not a advice board . Bad enough when we get teens on here who want us to do their research or homework for them.

Well with all do respect like I said it was just a thought and also was it not most of you who tell us that they want more young folk to get into the Civil War, and help us out, by teaching us things, we aint asking for everyones help on everything, at least I ain't I just ask questions cause I think someone on here can save me the trouble of looking it up and just telling me the answer and being nice about it, again I don't mean to be harsh I am just stating my opinion and I mean it with the utmost respect. "I just ask questions cause I think someone on here can save me the trouble of looking it up and just telling me the answer and being nice about it...."
You're missing the point. We can help you more by making you look it up rather then having the answer handed to you. Research is the backbone of history. When your teachers are droning on about obscure subjects and demanding reports and papers on them, chances are they couldn't care less if you arrive at the correct answer. What they're trying to drill into you is how to do proper research to arrive at a reasonable conclusion. If you research and find something you don't understand, then by all means ask here. Do not ask only because you don't feel like researching.

When someone gives you the answer you learn nothing. When you learn how to find an answer the world is open to you.
My father never answered my questions . He would help me to find them in the books and encyclopedia we had . He taught me to look things up. I thank him all the time even though he is long gone. Now I use google !!

My point exactly, when I ask I want somebody else's opinion or I don't understand it. If you must know my history teacher likes me because I know more then anyone in my history class, about antime period. Last edited on Tue Jan 20th, 2009 01:58 am by Reb till death

Echoing all of the above, the teacher's job ought not to be flash cards and rote memorizing of details. (Unfortunately, we still have a lot of that.) The real teacher gets you into a new interest and gets you started into doing for yourself.
You will find all kinds of help, but don't expect that we'll do your work for you. That didn't sound right, did it? You haven't asked that we do.
Whatever. I think you weren't asking for what we thought you were asking. That happens. Meanwhile, don't be put off from asking for what you need. If it is out of line, someone will inform you.
I'm personally pleased to see teeners join in. It's hard to find new recruits in an increasingly aging population of afficianados. It kinda takes the edge off the normal condemnation of "kids these days." (They're not all bad.)
