Hiya gang,
Take a look at the recent issue of Blue & Gray Magazine and my article on the Battle of Davis Bridge (Hatchie River). After you read it you will feel the overwhelming need to visit the field and then you can stop by the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center and say hi.

Tom, the article is fantastic. I got my copy of the magazine on the way to round table and read it waiting for my speaker to arrive. I shared it with the round table as General Ords great grandson is a member of our group. Congrats. Joann said to say hello. I showed her the article before the meeting . She remembers her visit in Corinth last year about this time.

Had family who lost an eye at the Hatchie and was invalided out. My Captain had family who was wounded as well, bullet exploded his cartridge box IIRC and force ended him up chewing on his rifle.
A very intriguing battle.

Tom:
Great article, a masterful job of telling the details of a battle without making the reader's eye glaze over with a litany of regiments. Quite compelling from beginning to end and excellent maps. Reminded me of some of the early stuff from Blue and Gray when they were the best CW magazine bar none (they're still pretty good, it's just the competition is getting stiffer).

David,
Thanks for the kind words. Working with Dave Roth at Blue & Gray was an absolute delight and the maps he produced are just awesome (a far cry from the hand drawn ones I provided him). The issue is selling well at the visitor center bookstore and Blue & Gray have asked me to write another piece. I had so much fun the first time around I'll just have to.

I loved the General's Tour and the article you wrote on Willie Price/Armand Pallissard as well. You pretty much wrote the whole mag!
What's next?

Fuller,
Glad you like the article on Price & Pallisard. The pic of Pallisard was provided to me by his family in Illinois.
Blue & Gray has asked for another one. I'm working on Confederate General Frank Armstrong's cavalry raid into West Tennessee in August of 1862. There was fighting near Bolivar, Medon, Tredegar and the Battle of Britton's Lane. A fascinating piece of the war and not too far from here.

I loved the original map you decided to put in with the Price article. A single little cross marking the grave?! Amazing. (Is it an X or is it a cross?) Great work. Have you heard any feedback from Pallisard's family about the article?
I've studied Bolivar a bit and so I'm excited to see your next article come out. Do you plan on traveling out to the sites for a little research?

I sent the Pallisard's a copy of the magazine but have not heard back from them yet.
As for visiting the sites, like Davis Bridge they are less than an hours drive away and I have been there frequently. I'm a firm believer that you can't write about a battle without getting your boots dirty tramping the feel. Topography played a part in every single land battle during the Civil War (for every war in history for that matter) and if you neglect the topography you are only telling part of the story.

Calcav; I picked up your article Friday and was able to read it today in the ER. There are occasional advantages to accidently leaving something in the work van. But I have to say I learned more about the battle in a couple hours than I have in the last ten years.
Thank you VERY much.
I eagerly wait your article on Iuka or Allatoona.
