Hurrah, Hurrah!

Thank you, Dennis!

I, for one, intend to celebrate with a long-overdue donation to CWi - about time I showed my support through my pocketbook - and just be glad it wasn't a donation towards buying  "get-well soon" flowers or some such thing....

Glad to hear things may be up and running before long. I told my wife I thought I could hear an unending string of curse words coming from the south (and I'm 5 hours from the CWi compound)!

Just to add to the comments from Joanie and Susan....I've been with Cwi dang near from the beginning. Matter of fact I still have a copy of an on-line novel (Charge of the Lancers) I printed off to read back in the days when they were HQ'ed in PA. I am a "trivia junkie" and have been for years. Tried to give it up but can't. I have always called Joe and Laurie the best history teachers I have ever had. They are a part of my daily routine.

I stayed with them when they went to a pay site. When that didn't work thank goodness they re-grouped and survived. I could count on one hand the number of times CWi has mentioned donations as a source of income. If you have never thought of donating, now would be a good time. They do so much for the students of the Civil War and I doubt that any of us know how much time they spend on bringing us the news, features, trivia, and the up-keep of this forum. I always fear the news or a posting that we are reading the news in CWi for the last time. Hope that doesn't happen for a long time.

Cap thanks for your posting .  I have become a Civil War trivia Junkie.  I have driven some friends crazy with my ranting about not finding the answer I want.  My mother died of Altzheimers .  When she retired from teaching she turned off her brain.  I swear that was part of the problem .  I love the trivia as it makes me think and become a detective trying to find jus the right answer.  When I can't find i you must hear it all he way back there from California.  I am trying to stay active and involved so as to keep the mind fresh .

I love reading the postings here and the news .  I have learned so much since a friend in the Civil War community here told me about the site.

Having said all that and wishing to donate I can't find the little credit card sign on line to donate.  Can one of you tell me what you think is best to do?  I thought about sending a check to the address on the home page.  Would that be best ?

Thanks again Cap for your background information .

Susan on the West Coast .

Susan I thought I saw that donate button on the trivia page recently but it appears to be gone now, I am sure a check to the snail mail adress would be welcome.

Susan & Dennis,

I emailed Joe (thru the CWi address) about the missing donate button right after I posted earlier today.  I had seen it many times before, but it is vanished right now. I'm sure Joe will take care of the problem when he gets back on line!

Again, let me echo all the thanks to you, Dennis,  for clearing up the mystery for us!

Joanie

Also, further down in this "Announcements and Notices" section, there is a thread entitled something like "How to support CWi."  I could kick myself for not reading it carefully sooner!

I'm sure almost everyone here has read it, but I notice a number of "guests" on-line every day - and I suppose that there are a few people like me, who didn't pay close enough attention the first time through...

If everyone who cares about CWi reads that thread carefully, perhaps we can generate a lot of previously unseen financial support for CWi.

I also appreciate Cap's posting very much, thank you for sharing the history of CWi and for reminding us how much caring & effort goes into maintaining this site.

Joanie

Cap,

I live 14 hours away from the compound and I could hear the cussing here in the Garden State. :)

I echo what Cap has posted and I too hope that folks do donate to the cause.  Have known Joe and Laurie for the past 11 years, and while I don't get to see them as much as I used to when they lived in PA, I get to see their work everyday in here.

Here's hoping that they can join us in June at the 9th annual Chat Room Muster which will be based in Tennessee this year. :)

Hope all are well.

Regards from the Garden State,

Steve Basic

Susan, I'll show your post to my husband who thinks I'm the only trivia addict and who has to bear my rantings and ravings if I can't find the right answer and has threatened several times to pull the plug on the computer! I discovered CWi 7 years ago and have been reading the news and playing trivia ever since. While searching for the answer I often come across interesting information that is not even related to the CW - so it's also a general history lesson. Like you I'm retired and like to keep my mind active and that's a good way to do it. I'll also donate to keep CWi going!

I've been out of town and was wondering what was going on too, glad to see it was an equipment failure only.

Gerlinde, I didn't know they could spend francs in Tennessee, that's interesting to know ;).

As an aside, just wanted to let you know that my brothers and sister/husband's cattle won in their respective breeds last week at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (for those unaquainted with the show it's huge). Brother raises brahmans in La and my sisters ranch in Floresville raises herefords. I'm a silent partner with my brothers operation in La. Both twin brother and brother-in-law are ags, one's a bq and the other ct. To tie in a cw fact, the first brahmans came to south louisiana from India in the early 1800's as a gift to a person named Barrow for the help he had given to individuals there. Interestingly, Barrow is related to the Ruffin family (Edmund). Also, either his son or grandson married Hunley and was a partner in his submarine venture.

Congrats on the prime beef victory.

Your BQ relative, is it your brother or BIL, what year is he?  My dad is one, I'm one and oldest boy is currently one.

My dad was a ct class of 49, twin brother who raises brahmas is back home in north La is class of 75, bil was a ct class of 78 (lives outside of San Antonio) and I'm the black sheep of the family BU class of 75. Brother still goes to reunions and marches with the alumni band, except he looks like he's a member of ZZ Top.

Your brother was one of my seniors then because I'm the same class as your BIL.  I assume his last name is the same as yours but I'm not recalling him was he in the White Band or Maroon Band?

Interesting story concerning by brother. Just prior to the fall of his senior year and the wearing of the boots in 74 he quit A&M and joined the navy. Go figure, could have waited 1 year, graduated and then went in as a comm. officer. Eventually came back after his stint in the navy and graduated as a nonrig. Just about broke my parents heart. Brother in law is retired air force colonel, was in I think logistics.
