I would like to offer a traditional St. Patrick's Day toast to all my colleagues here on the CWI discussion boards:

"Here’s to us.

Who’s like us?

Damn few, and they’re all dead."

Slainte, y’all.

- From Mahon mac Liam (AKA medicboymatt)

Of course, as a Cleburne Fan, I have to also wish every one a grand St Patrick's Day and this one should be extra special being as it is on a Saturday. I'll have to wear my special shamrock green shirt.

My son and his girl friend had bought an adorable leprechuan shirt for their rat terrier to wear to the local St Pat's parade, but not having the luck o' the Irish, they are both sick with a virulent flu going around in this area so the little dog will just have to wait until next year.

Raising a cup in General Cleburne's honor today before the day slips away out here.

Here's to Patrick Cleburne on his birth day  .

Here's a little proud Irish military history I culled from today's Palm Beach Post and the column of George McEvoy.

In 1765, the Spanish ambassador to the court of Vienna gave a grand ball to which only Irish-born were invited. Among the attendees were several Irish generals.  McEvoy tells us about one extraordinary person.

"Peter DeLacy of County Limerick, served during the the 18th century in the armies France, Poland, Austria, and Russia, where he comanded a regiment of Siberian infantry."

McEvoy also quotes a poem by Emily Lawless describing the Irish "Wild Geese."

"War-battered dogs are we, fighters in every clime;

Fillers of trench and of grave, mockers bemoaned by time;

War dogs hungry and gray, gnawing a naked bone;

Fighters in every clime--every cause--but our own."

So, I dedicate that moving poem to all the Irish who fought for North and South in our own Civil War.
