Sad reports this A.M. This is the building Sam Houston lived in in 1860, and Francis Lubbock during the first half of the Civil War. Texas state officials say a four-alarm fire has caused ''catastrophic'' damage to the Texas Governor's Mansion in Austin. Governor's spokesman Robert Black says said no one was inside the 150-year-old home when the fire began shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. He says the cause is not yet known. The mansion had been undergoing a $10 million renovation and Gov. Rick Perry and his wife had moved out last fall. Black says the damage to the mansion ''is extraordinary, bordering on catastrophic.'' He says more than 100 firefighters are at the scene and the roof of the mansion is very unstable.

At least all the artifacts were out due to the renovation but it is indeed sad. Looking at the collapsing roof, I was wondering which of the six chimneys was the one where Houston burned the note from Lincoln offering Federal troops to secure Texas.

people just dont care about the historic stuff that means a lot to others. if the dont like it they think they can just destroy it or steal it but thats not the way it is at all.

Just a suspicion on my part but the FLDS or their supporters have sent death threats to the judge who okayed the siezure of the kids and some high ranking officials in the CPS as well. Despite the adverse court ruling, Gov. Perry came out publicly after the court ruling and did the very un-political thing of supporting CPS and their actions. Is this pay back to Perry for this public stand and/or the state for siezing the kids? BTW, the house looks worse in person than in the pictures. I don't see how they will save it, without practically rebuidling it. Beavoir may be more original than the Governor's mansion when it is all done.
