Oh my, I can't remember the last time I was this excited. Laurie and I have not given each other X-mas presents for the last few years due to tough economic times. Now, with both of us working 2 jobs, this year will be a bit better. So I was floored when she told me she ordered mine today. Not only that but that it was being shipped today and I didn't have to wait till X-mas to open and use it...... Gotta say she can spot a deal. $250 off the regular price, free shipping ($65 savings) and no sales tax ($75 savings). Hope she like the toaster I bought her

I think you'd better throw in a loaf of bread with the toaster

You know who will be toast if you get a toaster don't you? Once early in my marriage I bought an appliance as a Christmas gift, never again! I'll say this though, it seems to be the gift she has remembered the longest

I once bought my (then) new wife a state-of-the-art food mixer as a Christmas gift. It now haunts me like Charles Dickens' Ghost of Christmas Past as every year at this time she never fails to remind me, usually at some social occassion in front of friends, of what a dreadful mistake it was....38 years on and she still won't forget. Trust me Javal, don't do the toaster...........

LOL - of course I was joking about the toaster. But believe it or not, she is getting an appliance - by her request. She's always wanted a KitchenAid Standing Mixer. Always seemed way overpriced to me, but after this gift, I can't really say much. So she'll finally get it (and some accesories). I've already been warned however not to try gettting her anything but the KitchenAid brand. Threats of castration were made if I did...

Ask her what color and then shop around. Prices on that unit vary widely. Best accessory: the dough hook. Next: the sausage grinder. Bread and sausage and cheeze sustain life. (No, I'm sure it does not come with a cheeze making attachment.) Last edited on Mon Nov 17th, 2008 08:56 pm by ole |

Joe, I reluctantly bought one for my wife last Christmas and she's still raving about it. Ole's right on the accessories. Not an area I'm terribly smart in, but it's lead to many delectable experiments... Don

You people can ooh and aah all you want over a mixer - I'll take the television. I bought my wife a KitchenAid and I didn't get a television. But I have gained a little girth.

Hey, you know what, that Kitchenaid mixer is not a bad gift. My husband got me one a few years ago (by my request, too), and not only wouldn't I have spent the money on it for myself (which I believe is the idea of a gift), but I can also make some mean cinnamon buns, bread, mashed potatoes, etc. with it. So my husband won, too! However. . . I'd take the TV also--I mean, the TV AND the mixer! I'm not humble. Pam

If the recipient is not in love with creative cooking and baking, the mixmaster ranks right up there with the electric ice-cream scoop. If the recipient is, he/she has been hankering for one for a long time.

Very true, Ole. I am not in love with creative cooking and baking, but am in love with a creative cook. Especially while I'm eating something creatively concocted while I'm watching a new 42" high def plasma television. And Pam, think of the muscles you built with that hard ice cream. And how happy your family must be that you can make them an authentic Hot Fudge Brownie Delight in the comfort of your own home. Enough dreaming...back to work.

What's an electric ice cream scoop? And why didn't I know about this when I worked at the DQ dipping hard ice cream?? Poor, poor, pitiful pam. When did the DQ dip hard ice cream? Actually found an electric ice cream scoop at a garage sale some years ago. It just heats up the scoop. It's as easy to take your basic aluminum scoop and hold it under a stream of hot water for a second or two. But it's cute, and a conversation starter. Ole

A friend of mine , (male) who loves to cook swears by his Kitchen Aid mixer . Not being a cook I don't have one I would love the tv though. Susan
