I just adopted a female Maine Coon cat who answers to "Calli"
Looking for suggestions for a formal, CW related name for her, as I don't think Calli is dignified enough for the beautiful creature she is.
Suggestions, please?
Reagrds,
Jana

Jana,
Seeing that it is a Maine Coon, why not name it Fanny, after JLC's Wife. Lord knows JLC has gotten enough publicity over the years.
Hope all is well in the Buckeye State.
Steve
P.S. The role of Fanny in "Gods and Generals" was played by a NJ gal...Mira Sorvino.

Marie,
We currently have two cats, Natty (for Natty Lyon) and Jackson (for Stonewall). Also a dog named Shiloh. But none of those are dignified. A dignified Civil War related name? How about "Tousant"?
Good luck with the kitty!

And I thought I was origanal naming my dog Shiloh!! Maybe I was as I named her 25 years ago!!
We recently had a cat adopt us, and he's all slate gray in color. In seeking a suitable name for him, we decided that given his coloring, he had to have a name reflecting a southern bend. We had tossed a number of names around, when my wife came up with Dixie. As no self respecting male cat should be have a female name, we figured a male version would be Dixon. Extending that logic, I came up with LT George Dixon CSA as he's named to remember the commander of the CSS Hunley. We call him Dixon for short!! We haven't found any gold coins in his pockets yet though!!!

If I were a cat person, I've always thought I would name a cat "Kitty Popcorn":
"Poor Kitty Popcorn or The Soldiers Pet" (1866)
Words and music by Henry Clay Work
1.
Did you ever hear the story of the loyal cat? Meyow!
Who was faithful to the flag, and ever follow'd that? Meyow!
Oh, she had a happy home beneath a southern sky,
But she pack'd her goods and left it when our troops came nigh,
And she fell into the column with a low glad cry, Meyow!
Chorus
Poor Kitty Popcorn!
Burried in a snow drift now
Never more shall ring the music of your charming song, Meyow!
Never more shall ring the music of your charming song, Meyow!
2.
Round her neck she wore a ribbon -- she was black as jet -- Meyow!
And at once a gallant claim'd her for a soldier's pet -- Meyow!
All the perils of the battle and the march she bore,
Climbing on her master's shoulder when her feet were sore,
Whisp'ring in his ear with wonder at the cannon's roar, Meyow!
[Repeat Chorus]
3.
Now the "cruel war is over," and the troops disband -- Meyow!
Kitty follows as a pilgrim to the northern land -- Meyow!
Ah! but sorrow overtakes her, and her master dies,
While she sadly sits a gazing in his dim blue eyes,
Till by strangers driven rudely from the door, she cries, Meyow!
[Repeat Chorus]
4.
So she wanders on the prairie till she sees his form -- Meyow!
Carried forth and buried roughly 'mid the driving storm -- Meyow!
Oh! her slender frame, it shivers in the northern blast,
As she seeks the sandy mound on which the snow falls fast,
And alone amid the darkness there she breathes her last Meyow![/quote] |

David,
As soon as I can get to Tractor Supply to get one, the babies are coming
inside to live in a pen
Are you getting in on this big storm?

Oh yeah, I even had to put a jacket on for the first time this season, it's 34 and the wind chill has it down in the 20s. Pretty cold for these parts and the first freeze warning of the season is tonight.
