Folks,
Had a query today from a major media outlet and I could use some help. Here was the e-mail (with his name, organization and contact info removed):
I am preparing stories on the Civil War’s 150th, including the use of blogs, Twitter, Facebook, etc. as a tool to communicate, educate, inform, etc. folks who have an interest in that period. I know the re-enacting community is all about authenticity, but do you know of any re-enactors who have embraced the new technologies, perhaps even bringing them to the battlefield?
So help me out, all you renactors! Blogs I can help him with, but Facebook and Twitter are foreign to me. Does anyone know of any reenactors or groups that use these platforms to educate, inform, etc.?

I don't know if my answer is any help or not.....
I am a reenactor. Our unit has a website, which needs updatin, (http://www.scottsbattery.org), but no Facebook, Twitter, etc.....
What does your e-mailer mean when they say "bringing them (technolgies) to the battlefield"? I've not seen any units or individuals bring laptops to events, some I am confused as to the nature of the question. Sometimes, a few us may sneak a digital photo or two of us in action, but they're mainly for personnal use. Out of all the pards in my unit, I'm the only one who is a member of this site (which I am always tellin' those guys about the fun and information here!! Before there was a registartion, I've been comming here since the late '90's!!).
Anyway, I hope I helped.....

Hello,
I don't know who is responsible for this and I don't think they are reenactors, but during the dates of the Gettysburg Campaign I found this Twitter feed called "Tweeting History: The Road to Gettysburg"

It took the stories of some of the battle's players and it was if they were "Tweeting" the battle according to history. It was pretty neat because they used lingo from 1863 and sometimes used direct quotes. You'd have to go back to find what they were saying during the actual battle. Sorry if this doesn't help, but it is using Twitter.

Thanks all for your help - hope others keep it going. I'm going to give this another few days then contact him and direct him to this thread.
Albert, I'm afraid that's all the info I have. I took it to mean has anyone taken a laptop to a reenactment and "twittered" the event (for example).

Joe have been on many reenactments and never seen laptops used as part of battles etc. Don't know about twitters, but do know many groups do have websites to enlist people into joining their reenactment groups. I would suggest he contact someone like http://www.ncwa.org/ National Civil War Association

Plenty of reenactors on FB as many of the groups shows hundreds of members.
