I'm looking for a good deal on an Enfiled rifle.

Does anybody have suggestions on a good, reputable and inexpensive seller?

Also, if anyone has one for sale, if you live close, or, perhaps, will be at an event that I'll be at this year, I'd be interested in talking with you. I live in Aledo, IL (Western Illinois, near Davenport, IA). Some of the events I'll be at are: Keokuk, IA, Clairmont, IA, Mason City, IA, Princeton, IL, Boscobel, WI, Usher's Ferry, IA, Belle Plaine, IA.

Thanks!!

James Country will be at Bascobel... they're as honest & reputable as they get.  Upper Mississippi Valley Merchantile is right across the river in Davenport and you are not likely to beat their deal as their Enfield comes w/ a sling, tampion & canvas gun bag... $30 odd worth.  I've bought a lot of merchandise from them over the years and any problems I have ever had were quickly rectified.

Other than that I might suggest Lodgewood's defarb which is well worth the extra $, the difference between a repop and an original is legion; trust me.

[size=Firearms]

http://www.lodgewood.com/  (consignment page often has wonderful deals)

http://www.umvmco.com/  (best deal for price)

http://www.regtqm.com/productindex.html  I am particularly fond of their defarb page.  One of these days I will get their Windsor... just have to convince my wife I REALLY need it.:D

You are a mean mean woman Susan... trying to get a poor innocent bystander in trouble I see.  A man who has never commited... been convicted of a crime.  Why... that's mean, just plain mean.

She knows I want it; she just has this odd belief we can use the $700 odd for other things; like paying bills.  I said we could live on Ramen & bullion for two months and... she simply looked at me an smiled that sweet smile of a knowing woman (you know the one you ladies use that makes our man parts crawl up into our stomachs and say "Move over buddy; bought to get dangerous out there!")  .  "That's fine dear; I'll tell your father all about your wonderful idea!"

And I quickly shut my mouth and go buy her the required meats and cheeses so that I might continue my little game called life.

Bit of advice boys... never, never marry a woman your father likes; and who can cook REALLY, REALLY well.  Otherwise your fellow re-enactors will ask: "Hey Shane... if you get in a car wreck and get hurt this season... not that it should happen or anything... but if it did happen let your better half know we'll make sure she makes it to all the events and even set up her tent for her.  By the way; what she making at the next event?"  sigh... "Bear sign, beans, & scrapple and that apple n saltpork dish."  Do you have any idea how scary it is to see a half dozen men around a meeting table glow w/ the pleasure of meal they haven't even eaten yet?  It's outright scary... of coarse my belly chimes in... she cooking again!  Yay no more mac n cheese w/ a Ramen side dish and the big band in my stomach starts up.

Did I mention my father can dot the i on a No Parking sign at 700 yards... irritating him might become... interesting indeed.

I'm a happily married man because I wake up every morning roll out of bed and go... ahhhh!  "I'm still wrong and she's still right."

Don't worry I'm kidding... mostly... sorta... I am so hosed.:D

Of coarse this is all coming from a happily married man... whose wife feeds him too well.  You don't think she's fattening me up for the kill?  Nahh... just being paranoid.

Johan,

Thanks for the info!! As soon as the boss isn't lookin', I'll check out those websites!

I know James Country well! They'll be at Keokuk (last weekend of April) so I'll get to talk with them then.

As to the one in Davenport, I've not yet visited them, but some of my pards say they have odd hours, so I don't know if I'll be able to visit them....Probably a good idea to call'em first.

In regards to your converstion with susansweet, may I add the following:

If a man is alone in the forrest and speaks, is he still wrong??.....heeheee....

I'm havin' a hard time convincing my wife to get a second job....Anyone have ideas??

Johan I did not mean to get you in trouble . I just thought I was helping out .  I do understand the concept though , Oh this money could be used for this , or wait how about paying the bills first and waitng on the item.

Sounds like you have been blessed with an angel of a wife.  You are a very lucky man.   Your daddy sounds like a fine man too.   I loved the post.  Dot an eye huh?  I wouldn't want to make him mad!!!!

Would you list the dates on those events in Iowa and Illinois -- or let me know where I can find out about them? Might want to visit several of them this year.

Johann:

Looked into Court's site. Cleremont is a bad weekend for me. Is there anything on Easter weekend? Anywhere. Maybe Princeton? Or Keokuk? Anyone ever go to Lockport's Civil War Days?

Johan which pictures are you ?  There are soooo many.  The ones I looked at were interesting.  The land looks so different than the land around here in California where they reenact after all it is California .  I know it doesn't look like Virginia here at all.

Johan I did look at all the pictures, Ole told me which person was you .  Should have known from your avatar.   I love it not one you can see your face.   Thanks for sharing the site.

Ole,

Keoku is April 28 and 29....Princeton, IL is in Ocober. I'll get you the other dates/events....my Unit Newsletter is at home, and I am at work, so I don't remember them off the top of my head.

By the way, where will you be comming from??

So far, I don't think our unit is planning to go to Lockport this year....

Mr. Sailhorst, Sir:

Over by Kankakee, which makes Mokena and Lockport quite easy. Keokuk would be at least an overnighter, as is Princeton. Boscobel would be a take-the-camper excursion, but I understand that it is so popular that if you don't have a reservation now, sleep in the car (if you can find a parking spot).

Thanks for the information. I just wanted to build a calendar of somewhat accessible events as an alternative to the Franklin muster. Keokuk sounds exceptionally possible. Will be back atcha for recommendations if we decide to go.

Ole, Sounds good to me!!

Sorry, but I forgot the schedule next to my coffee pot when I left for work this morning, so it'll be Monday before I can get accurate days.

Princeton shouldn't be too bad for you, as it's right down I-80.....I've got family from outside Chicago that came out for a quick "day trip"......

Thanks, Mr. Sailhorst:

Will plot them out and see if this summer can be better spent camping near several of these places rather than doing one biggie.
