I read the book soldiers Heart by Gary Paulsen. It was rather gory and only had about 90 pages but i like that it showed how high stakes the war was and how the 15 year olds felt going into such a blody war. If you have some free time then i recomend this book

Actually not fiction, the author took the letters & diary of a real man and added quite a bit. The young man is buried in Winona MN. The events described are pretty much as they happened. Well resrearched and well written IIRC.

Cody you are right about Gary Paulson. He writes great coming of age Young adult fiction. He has won the Newbery Honor award three times for his books . He has over 200 books to his credit.
The title Soldier's Heart comes from another name for DaCosta Syndrome an anxiety disorder first observed during the Civil War . The soldier would have all the signs of Heart disease but nothing would be physically wrong with them. Related to modern day PTSD .

Thats right, the boys name was Charley Goddard and he was in every battle but Bull Run, I read that Paulsen just put that in their to show how that battle was or something like that.
