I read an interesting book about the Wilmer McClean family. It chronicles their lives from the first shots of the war to Appomatox Courthouse. It is written by Ann Rinaldi
I enjoyed it. It follow the McClean family from First Mannasas to Appomatox. It centers mainly on McClean's oldest daughter Orcie. She struggles with her father's death (Not McClean). Her mother marries McClean and Orcie struggles in trying to please him. When the Civil War breaks out, she falls for a dashing cavalry officer named John Pemberton. But McClean moves the family to place to place so Orcie can't say goodbye. They finally arrive in Appomatox in the last year of the war. They are only there a few months before Gens. Lee and Grant arrive to discuss surrender terms. Orcie falls in love again. This time it is one of John S. Mosby's Rangers. She marries him and that's the end of the story. If i left anything out oh well i guess you'll have to read it.
