JDC kind of hard to payback for something that hasn't happened yet isn't it? I had forgotten Tom Green was there too in New Mexico. Thanks for reminding me . Susan

My "best three" Civil War movies - 1. Glory 2. Shenandoah 3. Red Badge of Courage In part because I think all three have a strong sense of realism about them. Perry

Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge the verison shown on the last episode of Twilight Zone is a real favorite of mine . Little Women the 1940's verison is another Civil War Favorite. Glory made me cry. After seeing the movie I had to see the memorial in Boston . Beautiful memorial

JDC it is the one where the soldier is going to be hanged and then he is running and running to reach his wife and home . If you haven't seen it that's all I will say. Great Ambrose Bierce story and good movie too. I like the black and white version that was shown on Twilight Zone made in France actually. There is another version that is part of a video about Ambrose Bierce. It is in color. Miss Susan

The crater explosion, even though it wasn't totally accurate, and the home scene in the south with the 'home guards' tracking down deserters and causing mayhem to those women left behind. Of course I am no expert on what that was like, but it struck a chord of hardship with me

fedreb: Have to disagree the book was much better. I will say this, in the book I was more interested in the homefront issues than Inman and his odyssey and kept wanting the focus to go back there. However in the film it was the other way around. There are two episodes of some pretty raw footage (of a sexual nature) in the film SS, so you may want to have your parents prewiew that or skip through it if you watch it, as with most Hollywood films the sex is gratuitous and skipping it will not ruin the plot for you.
