I am reading Last in their Class. In the chapter about Appomattox it states that Custer marched with an honor guard carrying 31 Rebel flags. By Appomattox he had 40. I am wondering if these flags were unfurled or rolled up as they marched ? Was this common to march with captured battleflags flying in your line ? Figured Bama or Johan or Texas Defender might have an answer. Thanks So much to learn and I like going to the experts here for help. Susan

Bama that is my first thought too. I was thinking that if they were unfurled they would cause confusion. But we are talking about CUSTER here and ya just never know with him. Hence the reason I am asking . Thanks for the reply Susan
