From what I've seen in the trailers, Mel ought to be really, really ashamed. Maybe it will be good fun, but I've seen nothing that would lead me to go out and see it. You can't scratch a match on a bar of soap, and you can't polish a turd. Everything else is possible.

Help me out here. Is this a real trailer for a real movie? Or is it just a spoof for Kimmel's show (I like funny stuff, which is why I never watch him)? I must be missing something.

For a few brief moments I actually had high hopes Gibson was doing a serious Civil War movie, but I follow movies pretty closely and wondered how such a movie would have escaped my attention.
As soon as I saw that carzy woman on the bed with chickens I knew I had been zoomed. (Being gullible, I often am.)

I'd say that Colonel Gibson is a dumb cluck.
 It was worth a chuckle though. I've wiped my goatee with a wing or two in my time too.

I'm racking my brain, folks. Has there ever been a movie that is a spoof of the Civil War? Sort of a Beavis and Butthead of foot soldiers led by a fool of a general or the Civil War if Will Ferrell or the Cable Guy interpreted it? Or maybe the war just isn't that funny.
Maybe Quentin Tarantino could do a Civil War movie. Johnny Depp might be able to develop an unforgettable Civil War character just as Captain Jack Sparrow has become for pirates.

I can't even contemplate a Three Stooges Civil War movie. I'd like to see it though. Buster Keaton's movie too.

The General is a classic silent movie based very very loosley on Andrew's Raiders . Buster Keaton is the Southern engineer who rescues his engine. Some of the "special effects" are amazing . Keaton's deadpan humor will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.
It was filmed in Oregon with the Oregon national guard hired to play the Union and Confederate soldiers in the film.
I shared a clip of it at our book discussion group movie night. We ended up watching the whole thing with everyone laughing their heads off.
The Three Stooges I saw a bit from a few years ago at the same Book discussion group for movie night that year. I can't remember what it is called. They are three Union soldiers behind the lines who put on Confederate officers uniforms. They are invited to tea at some southern ladies home. Of course in making their own sandwiches they manage to get a pillow in the middle. When they start to eat they eat feathers. Soon feathers are flying everywhere. I have never been a fan of Three Stooges but this one isn't bad.
Found it : Uncivil Warriors made in 1935 review on INDb says Set in the civil war, the stooges are spies for the north. They impersonate southern officers and infiltrate the enemy ranks to get valuable information. On the run when they are discovered, they hide in a cannon and are blown back to their northern headquarters
Hmm seems they also made Uncivil War Birds in 1946. The stooges are civil war soldiers who are constantly changing uniforms to avoid the opposing armies. Eventually they decide to be loyal to the south, but remain disguised as Union soldiers. Curly is detected as a spy, but Moe and Larry prevent his execution. The boys escape with a secret map and marry their three southern belles.

Uncivil Warriors is particularly un-PC today where Curly is masquerading as a Southern Belle and holding "her" baby and when the Confederate soldiers catch a glimpse of the baby it is black.
The TV series Everybody Loves Raymond had a funny episode about a CW reenactment.
