I'm active on twelve different boards dealing w/ the ACW; I've been a mod on three different ones over the last five years. Ole and some others probably know me from some of those other boards. The Lost Cause as I see it is quite active on several. The same rhetoric is used, the same cut and pasted talking points. I admit it has jaded me tothe point where I resigned as a mod from all but one. I suppose I should be proud of the hate mail (both snail & E)I've received over the years. Proof that truth hurts some more than others.
As just one example Steve Cone is one of the finest men I have ever had the privledge to meet. He is proud of his ancestors that served the CS, and rightly so. If any man were to call the man a racist I would call them a bald faced liar. I've seen other men with similar attitudes about history and preservation. They aren't interested in distorting history but in preserving it. That is not the Lost Cause but history. There is a difference; I hope you see it.
In my eyes the Lost Cause is no better than the Holocaust deniers and deserve the about same consideration.
I'm blunt; always have been, I call it as I see it and let the devil take the hindmost.
Like anything it's just my opinion; no one has to read my opinion or pay it any mind. When I think I'm right I stick by my guns; but when shown I'm wrong I'm willing to eat crow. Ask Ole; I've eaten plenty of crow over the years... little of it caused by the Lost Cause.
And no I don't believe you are card carrying member of the Lost Cause; I believe you've proven you can read.
