 Per my mom, my Great-Uncle claimed that as a 12 year old boy, he was held hostage for a few days by Admiral Porter on one of his gunboats when his fleet was trapped by the rescinding waters at Alexandria, LA during the Red River Campaign.  He Said Porter pumped him for information about the local area and held him captive for a couple of days before letting him go.  He also told stories of watching the Yankees build Bailey's Dam.
