Jeff_cw- You don't give the name of your ancestor, the state he was from, or where he might have served. Some states (Tennessee for one) have lists of physicians that served the Confederacy. Tennessee Department of State: Tennessee State Library and Archives There are some: "How to" websites that tell you how to go about obtaining information about Civil War physicians. The problem in the case of Confederate physicians is that a lot of records have been destroyed or lost. Civil War Surgeon Identification methods A list of lists might turn up something: Cyndi's List - U.S. - Civil War / War for Southern Independence This book might contain the info you are seeking: http://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Gray-Confederate-Medical-Service/dp/0807118567 Your ancestor might also have received a pension from his state for his service. Pension records can provide info about the individual's service. Good luck in your search. In the end, the National Archives info might be your best shot.
