 ASefton, I think you are going to have to look around the edges to find the info on James Cearnal. I mean you are going to read books by people who served with him, or on the battle of Pea ridge, and hope they wrote something in passing about him about what happen to him after the war.

Like I learned that one of my great great uncles great grandchild was Joe Kennedy's doctor in West Palm Fl. in a travel book on Currituck County. The book mentioned that Walter Newburn was from Currituck county moved to West Palm Fl to practice medicine and became Joe Kennedy's doctor.  

Its another type of lead, Good Luck...
