To expand just a touch on Warhorse58's thought, "Glory" was a very good movie that did not try to do too much. It concentrated on Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Massachusetts. That was the story, and the movie told it very well without a lot of extra gunk and sentimentality. It is not only one of my favorite CW movies, but is one of my favorite movies, period.

Maybe "Gettysburg" and to a much greater extent, "Gods and Generals" failed because they were trying to do too much. I can think of hundreds of CW stories that would make a good two hour movie that would interest the general public. Appomattox and the days leading up to it, if done right, would be a good movie.
