 I reenact with a Confederate artillry unit.....I study the Southern cause.....I sympathize with Confederate ideolgy (State's rights, defense of homeland).......My g-g-grandfather was Sgt. in the Union Cavalry.....Do I hate him??....No......Do I respect him??....Very much so!!....Do I wish he served with the Confederacy??....No, I am glad he followed his heart and conscious......Next year, my reenacting Unit is going to Shiloh as Fed. Infantry. We will be 10 miles from his grave. After the reenactment, we are going to his grave to fire a volley as a salute......Point is, repsect your family....Understand their point of view.....Don't apply 21st century standards, values and mores to 19th century ways of life or trends in thought.....Embrace YOUR history.....
