Lieutenant General Simon Bolivar Buckner, Jr., who was killed on Okinawa in 1945, was the son, not the grandson, of CSA Lieutenant General Simon Bolivar Buckner. In 1885, the older Buckner, then 62, married Delia Claiborne, then 28. Their son was born the following year.

General Buckner was the highest ranking American military man killed in action in World War II.
